Onion sambar is delicious and simple easy way of sambar with simple ingredients. Sambar is a favorite at all and often made it onion sambar with ldli, dosa  and steamed rice. Small  onion good to health to reduce heat, digestive health, antioxidants, etc. The main ingredients needed are small onion, tuvar dal, red chillies, turmeric and tamarind pulp.

Ingredients

For cooking dal:


  • 1cup of tuvar dal [ 150 ml]
  • 1tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1tsp of castor oil 
  • ¼ tsp of cumin seeds 
For seasoning or tempering vengaya sambar:
  • 1tablespoons of oil
  • 5 to 6 dry red chillies
  • ½ teaspoons of mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoons of urad dal
  • 1 teaspoons of gram dal
  • 2springs of curry leaves

Other ingredients for vengaya sambar recipes:[ 1cup = 250ml]


  • 20 to 25 peeled small onions
  • 1 small tomato
  • ½ tablespoon of tamarind soaked in ¼ cup of water.
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • Salt as per required.

How to make vengaya sambar recipes

Preparartion:

1. Rinse 1cup of tuvar dal approximately 150ml for thrice of times in water. Then add 1 teaspoons of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of castor oil, ¼ tsp of cumin seeds close the pressure cooker stir for 2 to 3 whistle or cooked completely.


2. When dal gets ready  turns soft mash the dal and keep asides.


3. then add tamarind to be soaked with  ½ cup of water for 15minutes.


4. Then peeled 20 to 25 small onions.


5. Dice the one small tomato keep asides.



Making vengaya sambar recipe:

1. Heat a pan add 2 tablespoons of oil and add ½ teaspoons of mustard seeds along with 1 teaspoons of urad dal and gram dal.  The mustard seeds to gets splutter and the urad dal and gram dal gets golden colour.



2. Then add 2 springs of curry leaves.
3. Then add 5 to 6 dry red chillies sauté well till its change colour.
4.  add the peeled small onions



5. sauté till the onions turn translucent.
6. Add the diced tomatoes .


7. Add mashed tuvar dal mix well add some water as per required.



8. Add salt as per required.
9. Add tamarind pulp to the mixture and stir well.


10. slow down the flame and the vengaya sambar for 6 to 10mins.


11. Finally garnish with coriander leaves if you want. 

12. Serve small onion sambar with idli, dosa, steamed rice.
